For months now I traveled around District 9 from Lithia, Plant City, and the Haley VA Hospital, through Carrollwood, Clearwater, Tarpon, and Oldsmar, and up to Hudson and Bayonet Point. It’s been quite a journey!

      I’ve watched a young soldier whose arms have been shot away struggling to eat; and I ask what do we have to show for his sacrifice.

 

      I’ve seen bewildered seniors trying to figure out the new Medicare rules; and I ask why can’t we make the rules simpler and clearer.    

        I’ve met a mother fighting to cure her son of lead poisoning   from defective toys; and I ask why don’t we do a better job of protecting our kids. 

        I’ve talked with a seriously ill woman who must pay thousands of dollars out of her own pocket for health care because of insurance company loopholes and stall tactics: and I ask how much longer must we tolerate this.

       I've listened to men whose jobs have been outsourced abroad;  and I ask where are the safety nets and where are the programs to better the lives of all of us. 

We must fix these problems. We must do a better job of protecting our kids, helping our wounded soldiers, and providing health care.  We must end the Iraqi war.

Imagine:

A country that protects its citizens with world class safety nets.

 

A country that fights a tough, smart, and determined war against its enemies.

 

A country where Washington politicians are accountable to the people.

 

A country where everybody has a chance to achieve the American Dream.

 

Working together, we can have that country.

I will use my experience as a lawyer, mediator,  and wartime naval officer to work for that country.

*1/10/08 - Bill has been sworn in as a director for the Tampa chapter of the Military Officers Association of America, Inc. (MOAA Tampa).

* 11/28/07 - Bill has been endorsed by Fred Taylor, three-time recipient of the Purple Heart and past president of the Order of the Purple Heart.

* Congressman Gus Bilirakis has the lowest power ranking in Florida on the House Freshman list of power and overall for the whole state. His overall ranking of 438 also places him second to last out of the entire House of Representatives. Note: Last on the list is Congressman Jefferson of Louisiana, who is indicted.
